FAQs

What is a credit union?

A credit union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative that offers financial products and services to a specific group of individuals who have something in common (such as an employer). Unlike banks, credit unions do not have shareholders and do not pay taxes. This allows us to return 100% of our profit to the members in the form of lower rates when you borrow, higher rates when you save and superior service.

Does Darden own the credit union?

No, the credit union is owned by the account holders (members). Darden is the credit union's sponsor, which means it provides support so Darden's employees can enjoy the savings and benefits the credit union offers.

Will my manager or anyone else at Darden have access to my account information?

No. The credit union is an independent company. Like any other financial institution, your accounts are private and secure.

Do I have to close my accounts if I leave Darden?

Not at all. Once you are a member of the credit union, you can remain a member for the rest of your life.

How do I become a member of the Credit Union?

The process of becoming a member is easy. Simply click JOIN at the top of our website or call 877.90.MYDCU to join the credit union and open your primary savings account. The steps include completing a membership invitation, paying the $5 membership fee, and making your $5 minimum deposit into your primary account.

Why is there a fee for joining the Credit Union?

The credit union is a not-for-profit cooperative, which means it is owned and operated by its members, sometimes called member-owners. The one-time fee purchases your share of the cooperative and is your ticket to all the tremendous benefits that come with membership.

What types of products and services are offered?

The credit union offers a full line of products and services, including checking and savings accounts, car loans, credit cards, personal loans, and real estate loans.

Will the credit union have branches and ATMs near me?

Your credit union participates in shared branching and ATM networks. This means there will be more than 4,000 branches and 30,000 ATMs for you to use to access your accounts at no cost. In addition, Darden Credit Union will operate two branches in Orlando: one on Virginia Drive and the other inside Darden's Restaurant Support Center. To find no-charge ATMs and branches near you, visit www.DardenCU.com and use the ATM and branch locator tools.

Is my money safe with the credit union?

Your savings are insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency of the U.S. Government. Your IRA savings are insured separately up to $250,000 by the NCUA.

It says "rates as low as”. How will I know what my rate will be?

As with any loan, your rate and term will be determined by several factors including your personal credit history, the type of loan for which you are applying, and the reasons for borrowing. You will be informed of your rate and payment information once you have applied. There is no obligation to borrow once you have applied.

Can I use payroll deduction to make my credit union loan payments?

Not right away, although we will be able to help you set up automatic loan payments from a Darden Credit Union account. The Credit Union will help you set this up. Payroll deduction will be available in 2011.

Can I open an account without using the online application?

We have a few other options you may use to open an account. You may call us at 877.90.MYDCU to speak with a representative and open an account. If you are located in Central Florida you can visit one of our two branch locations or you may click here to download an application form and mail it to us at:
