Award-Winning Artist Brings Winter Park to Life Inside New USF CU Branch

Last week, we celebrated the soft-opening of our stunning new USF Credit Union branch in Winter Park, Florida. And if you’ve stopped by already, you’ve certainly noticed something unexpected the moment you walk in - beautiful art!

The hand-picked pieces are from award-winning local artist Heather Nagy and they instantly change how the space feels.

Heather’s work complements a branch designed to be more than a place to bank but a place where beauty, community, and human connection come together.

Seeing the Beauty Others Might Miss

For Heather, her artwork starts with how she sees the world.

“I think I’m always looking for those little moments of beauty,” she says. “You can find beauty anywhere… it’s kind of a muscle that you grow.”

That mindset shows up in every piece inside the branch.

They’re not grand, sweeping landmarks. Instead, they’re the kinds of places you pass every day - cafés, corners, quiet streets - captured in a way that makes you pause.

“I love finding little communities… outdoor cafés… those small moments that become memories,” she says. “And it’s easy to do in places like Park Avenue and around Winter Park.”

Capturing the Soul of a “Hidden Gem”

Ask Heather about Winter Park, and her answer is all about feeling.

“Winter Park has a small-town charm and history,” she says. “I love the vibrancy. It’s kind of a hidden Florida gem.”

That love is woven into her work, including familiar spots that USF CU members instantly recognize.

One of her favorites?

“The Briar Patch,” she says, smiling. “I love the bright yellow umbrellas and the chairs - it’s just been there forever. Other things change, but that’s been there for the 20+ years I’ve lived here.”

It’s that sense of continuity that turns a painting into something personal.

Painting the Way We Remember

Heather describes her style as “an idealized reality.”

“They’re all real places,” she says, “but it’s how you want to remember it… with rose-colored glasses. There’s a lot you can’t control in life, and that can feel heavy. So I want there to be a lightness… something that helps us breathe a little deeper if we look for it.”

That sense of lightness is exactly what you feel walking through the branch.

When Art Sparks a Connection

One of Heather’s favorite moments is watching someone recognize a place in her work.

“Hopefully people will resonate with it and say, ‘Hey, I know that place!’” she says. “It’s always fun when someone says, ‘I worked there’ or ‘We had lunch there.’ That tells a story.”

That’s what makes her work such a natural fit here.

“Having a local artist come in - that’s pretty original,” says USF CU President & CEO Rick Skaggs. “It sets the tone that we want to be part of the community… part of the fabric of Winter Park and the greater Orlando area.”

Thoughtfully Created - Just Like the Experience Inside USF CU’s Branch

Heather’s process is as intentional as the space itself.

“I’ll walk around, take tons of photos, go back to the studio… sometimes go back again,” she says. “Then I evaluate what angles work best.”

From there, each piece comes to life over days - sometimes more than a week for larger works.

It’s crafted with care - just like the experience we’re building for every member who walks through our doors.

More Than a Branch

Our Winter Park location isn’t a traditional branch - and it’s not meant to be.

It’s a place where you can slow down. Feel welcomed. Recognize your community. And maybe even see it a little differently.

“It’s a little spa-like,” USF CU’s first Winter Park member says. “Just look at the light fixtures… look at the art. Every office has beautiful art. It’s beautiful.”
